Learned borrowing from Latin acatalēpticus, from Ancient Greek ἀκατάληπτος (akatálēptos, incomprehensible), from ἀ- (a-, not) + καταλαμβάνω (katalambánō, to seize), from κατά (katá, against) + λαμβάνω (lambánō, to take).
