Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ὠχρότης (ōkhrótēs), from the accusative singular τὴν (tḕn) ὠχρότητα (ōkhrótēta). Equivalent to ωχρ(ός) (ochr(ós), pallid, pale) +‎ -ότητα (-ótita, -ity, -ness).
