Ancient Greek

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Possibly from an original meaning of burning, connected to δαΐς (daḯs, torch). However, the Mycenaean form *𐀅𐀂𐀦𐀲 (*-da-i-qo-ta), lacking -ϝ-, suggests a non-Indo-European origin.[1]
