Learned borrowing from Byzantine Greek Ἰούλης (Ioúlēs) from Ancient Greek Ἰούλιος (Ioúlios) with avoidance of the second hiatus, from Latin iūlius.[1] Doublet of Ιούλιος (Ioúlios).
