From Ottoman Turkish اویانق (uyanıḳ, awake, vigilant, wary, sharp, smart),[1] from Ottoman Turkish اویانمق (uyanmaḳ, to awake), from Proto-Turkic *odun- (to awake),[2] morphologically uyan- +‎ -ık.
