Etymology
Uncertain. Possibly from *αὐσ-άνθα (*aus-ántha), from the root of οὖς (oûs, “ear”), but the suffix is unclear.[1] Alternatively from a Proto-Albanian *awántha whence Albanian vath (“earring”).[2]
