From Proto-Tai *cetᴰ (seven), from Middle Chinese (MC tshit, “seven”). Cognate with Thai เจ็ด (jèt), Lao ເຈັດ (chet), ᦵᦈᧆ (ṫsed), Tai Dam ꪹꪊꪸꪒ, Shan ၸဵတ်း (tsáet), Tai Nüa ᥓᥥᥖᥱ (tsět), Ahom 𑜋𑜢𑜄𑜫 (chit), Bouyei xadt, Nong Zhuang jiat.
