Danish
Etymology
From Old Norse skip (“ship”), from Proto-Germanic *skipą. Cognate with English ship and German Schiff.
The meaning "nave" is influenced by German Schiff, which is a loan translation of Medieval Latin navis (“ship, nave”). It have arisen through a confusion of two Greek words: ναῦς (naûs, “ship”) and ναός (naós, “temple, nave”)
